There are people out there who swear that the 195 degree stock T-stat has to be there for your XJ to get it's best mileage. I get 20-22 MPG on the highway every trip with a 180 degree T-stat. I know the 180 dregree T-stat helps keep my engine from melting down when driving in a hot area....and the heater gets plenty warm for me in the winter and cold areas. So, I say that the change to a 180 degree T-stat can only help your 4.0 XJ engine.
