Sockets Vs. Wrenches

I call it the Radio Shack special. It was my first computer ever. Still have it, but it has not worked for years. I keep it to show my kids in like fifty years what we all started with. By then a PC will probably be attached to the back of your head.

But to keep it on topic, a breaker bar is also a must.

I started buying kobalt to replace my craftsman tools as they died and so far i love them. they are super heavy and easy to grip. they dont slip out of your hands when you are covered in oil, and i do mean covered. and durable. And they make a really great set of air tools. And if you are ever going to go with power tools. Dewalt makes some amazingly durable wired and non wired power tools.

Make sure you grab both metric and standard. A 1/2" drive breaker bar with beefy sockets will get used a ton. Impact sockets are a little stronger so you can throw a cheater bar on and not worry as much.

My brother just got a set of husky tools(140 piece if i remember correctly) and i have been using it for most of the week because i was doing the wrenching in my driveway instead of in a separate garage where my dads tools are.. they took a hell of a lot of abuse and seem to be a good set of tools, im not a mechanic or anything, but i am most likely going to buy the same set(runs about 150 at home depot and he said it has a lifetime warranty). Has both metric and standard as well as 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" sets.

I've got a set of channellock sockets that have served me very well and I use craftsman wrenches. It serves me well for what I use them for and I don't feel like I've got cheap tools at all. Never had a tool break on me to this day.

Thanks for all the real world info guys, I like things straight from the horse's mouth, [no offense].
Just got back from Sears, saw this set for $99, $50 off, with an additional 10% off from 6-9 only tonight, so for $80 I can get it.
I had the clerk open it up, the switch on the ratchets looked cheap as hell, like paper thin pot metal, wonder how fast that will snap off?
Anyone think this is a good deal?, if so, I will get it. 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 drives, deep sockets, Standard and Metric wrenches, ect.
Sign in store said good for light auto repair only, [no undercarriage work], but so what, they're Craftsman, if I break something I'll get another for free.

Also looked at Husky set at Home Depot, walked out as soon as I read "Made in China" on the box.

Look man.......I've been a mechanic for eight years. I've had snap-on, proto, matco, craftsman, husky freakin everything. They are made different and feel different in your hand. I swear a snap on will fit places other wrenches won't.
I had a fire and all my tools burnt. Everything I was towing was a giant glob of mess and I barely rescued a very few items.
I had a wad of cash in my hand and it was family night and it was tell my kids no movies for a few weeks and get tools I need or not be able to fix anything. So I went to wally world and bought a full set of wrenches and a huge set of sockets for like 50-60 bucks all together and spent the rest on my girls. Everything I've done to my jeep I've done with these cheap **** stanley tools and they have served me fine. Buys some stanley tools. Buy a craftsman ratchet, and buy dewalt power tools but don't waste your money on a snap-on 1/4 drive set you will use once. buy a stanley and it'll do. Or husky or whatever cheap brand.

that craftsman set s pretty nice, good deal. i would go with that if i were u. i was lucky enough to be able to get all my snap on stuff at 50% off when i was a student. i would not buy anything that wasnt snap on anymore. but really it all comes down to what your needs are and yur preferances are. snap on tools feel comfortable in my hands. i have only broken a handfull of stuff. improper use. i have broken bent stripped u name it to craftsman, husky and kobalt. but u can just go get another one instead of wait for a truck.
