Default So many gremlins in my brakes!

Ok, so 96' xj, 31's, ABS and more than enough brake problems. 3 years, gone through 3 calipers, many brake lines, 4 wheel cylinders, 2 rebuild on the drums. grant it all of this was over time, but now i think it may be the master cylinder. the pedal travels much further than it used to and the last 10 feet of a stop it feels like the abs kicks on, and the pedal goes soft. I almost want to say it feels like the diaphram in the master cylinder has a leak or something. I'm sick of dealing with brake problems and Im hoping this is the last for a while, and ideas?

You could try a fluid flush first before swapping out the master cylinder. Contaminated fluid will make the brakes soft.

As to the frequency and amount of brake issues you've been having, it is unusual to say the least. One thing I'd be curious about is where you buy your replacement parts.

I bought 2 calipers at NAPA and both lasted a couple months. I refuse to buy NAPA parts after those and buying a U-joint where the cross was .040 over and blew out the caps and ruined an axle shaft. Other than that I use advacned auto parts with no problems

My brake pedal does the same thing, and I've bled my brakes dry. Let me know how the master cylinder works out. I won't have the money to replace mine for another couple weeks. I'm replacing the brake booster while I'm at it as well.
