Smoking window switch!
I have a stock 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee (5.2.) I recently installed some new door speakers and wiring, as well as a second battery, sub, and a new amp for the speakers. When I turned everything on, smoke started pouring from the drivers side window control switch. I got a new one, but wanted to check the wiring anyways. I found current (2.2v) at a purple wire and a black and white wire at the connector. When I unplug them from the connecter at the junction block near the drivers feet, it goes away and there is no continuity between them, so I think my problem is further up the line. I’ve just been having a hard time finding the wiring diagrams for this particular model. I have a feeling I did it when I was routing the speaker wires through one of the doors, I’m just not sure which one. Incidentally, the passenger front window works fine. I assume the rear two don’t work because I’m leaving the window switch disconnected, which has the lock for them. Does anyone have that wiring diagram?
Thanks, that helps a lot. I think from that I can rule out the wiring at the passenger door, since the voltage and continuity goes away when I unplug it from the body computer. I was wondering what that thing was. I hope that’s not shorted out. It must be though 😖👍
I also kind of wonder if grounding the second battery and amps to the body screwed it ip somehow. 🤔 idk where else I would put a ground though, unless I ran another wire all the way to the battery. Which seems redundant

Obviously, you did something wrong. The stock wiring was fine before you worked on it. What changed? Did the stock wiring suddenly become faulty all by itself? Nope. What changed was whatever you did. Therefore, don't look at the stock wiring for the source of the problem. The source of the problem is what you did.
You must find out what you did wrong, fix that, THEN repair whatever damage you did. (a smoked switch is almost certain, and there may be other damage)
No, you found voltage. Current is measured in amperage, not volts. Here is a good simple rundown on the terms: http://www.newelectric.com/whats-the...lts-and-watts/
Um, right. Thanks for following along. I’m trying to figure out how and where I screwed up the stock wiring, because the window switch is obviously not aftermarket. My original thought was that I cut into some wiring running the speaker wires through the doors, but I’m not so sure now.

I am following a long. You are looking in the wrong place. You are assuming your wiring is fine but you accidentally did something that messed up the window wiring.
Check the wiring you did as if that is the only problem in the world. You will most likely find it there.
