smoke from wheel well

Default smoke from wheel well

Everytime i park my xj i smell a bit of smoke and can sometimes see the smoke come from a little bit of my hood and the wheel well. what should i look into to try and fix it? TIA

Next time it happens,feel the rim and see if its hot. If it is then you have a frozen caliper.Replace it.

just drove around for 10 min. smelt and saw a little smoke. touched the rim and it wasnt hot. what else could i try?

i second seized caliper. you should replace both sides.

If it doesn't pull or drift toward that side it isn't a seized caliper. You probably have an oil leak or something instead. Who would have thought, a Jeep that leaks!!!!

if the rim wasnt hot and it wasnt pulling, then its defnately not the caliper. and if it was an oil leak i cant see it only smoking from the right side.did you recently change, or bleed your brakes? like maybe dripped brake fluid on the pads, or rotor? and brand new pads will do that to for the first few miles

I like how everyone has brakes on their minds when he made no mention whatsoever of the brakes, just smoke. My valve cover leaks and it smokes out the wheel wells sometimes

yea both wheel wells, he also clearly stated it was only smoking from the right

bicker bicker.

I have no clue about the OPs problem. one of my jeeps leaks oil from just about every seal and i get smoke coming from everywhere. its weird that it would only come from one area.
