Question Smells like burning in the engine compartment

My 87 XJ always smells like somethings really been burning after I've driven it for about 20 minutes or so. I want to say it smells like transmission fluid, but it never leaks and doesn't driver or handle funny. Any ideas? Any other possibilities? Thanks in advance!

I would just look everywhere on the motor for any wet spots that would indicate a leak,or around your bellhousing. If you can smell it you should be able to see a little smoke.

Thanks. Is there a good (quick) way to clean the engine? Maybe then I will have a better idea about where a leak may be.

You're on a roll two posts, two threadjacks.
Go here as suggested:https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/ask...772/index3265/
Or start a new thread. List year and milege for better help. And what you have done/checked to find the source,

Depending on amount of "smoke" it could be normal vapor in crankcase, could be excessive blowby, could be coolant vapor from coolant leak.

Can't be accused of not searching
