I've only had my 1996 XJ for a year now and it has stated up perfectly. until recently, now it is very slow to start. I checked the battery and its fine, its not cold out so that's not a problem.
Could it be the starter slow going bad?
Thank you guys.. this is a great group of people

Don't know if they still do it or not but I know Advance Auto and probably other stores will run a free diagnostics on your vehicles systems and give a print out. Maybe have it done before replacing parts.

Sluggish cranking is usually related to battery or starter. Did you load test the battery, or simply check its voltage?
Also, voltage drop between the battery and starter due to corrosion and/or loose connections is pretty common. When was the last time you cleaned up all of the connections and ground locations? (wire brush, clean shiny metal, tight, etc.)

I had the battery checked and it was fine, I cleaned the terminals a few days ago.
This is why im thinking its the starter, i'll see if I can have it checked

Clean all of the grounds. There are several. Had a similar problem and cleaning the grounds helped. Also in my research this could also be a sign of a fuel pump starting to go bad. Just something to keep in mind.

If the starter is covered in oil and dirt then clean it, too. Oil and dirt coat the contacts and gum it up, shortening the life of the starter. Mine was caked bad. I cleaned it using electrical cleaner and it cranked much faster.
