Default slight knock help please

i have a 94 xj 4.0 automatic trans 4x4 i bought this heep 3 weeks ago with 161000 miles it was cheap and the knock was already present i thought it was something in the head but i took the vc of today and the pushrods look good its oiling good and the rockers are tight. with the vc on it sounds like its in the head with the vc off it the tick/knock sounds weak but not in the head. its coming from the back of the motor there was no sludge in the head pretty clean really. there s a slight miss in the motor also only knocks at idle and sometimes isnt present till it rund a minute or to what do u guys think

I dont have an answer for you, but I've owned three Jeeps (90, 01, 99) and they have all knocked.

Mine started knocking after a oil change once, turns out my XJ does not like Fram oil filters, replaced it with a Mopar filter and it went right away.this last time I used a K&N filter seems like it worked even better.Might be worth looking at,I dont mind a little ticking but a knock worries me.....JM 2cents

I had a slight knock a couple years ago. And it ended up being that all the converter bolts were loose. I pulled them out one by one and put lock tight on them.

sounds like a weak oil pump to me even at idle you should have oil splatter everywhere with the vc off you can try to do an engine flush and see if that helps what is your oil pressure gauge at at idle

yea like i said before sounds like a bad pump or it could be a clogged inlet filter for the oil pump
