t case skid is quite essential, then diff covers, then gastank.

then go nuts.

i have a tomkin 14" t-case, tomkin full oilpan skid, stock front engine skid, stock gastank skid and warn front and rear diff covers. i still need to fab up some rockrails tho. already took a hit or two.

you can also get control arm skids too.

Not that I know off... you talking about strength or adaptability? They should all be the same.

Ya, I've hit my front diff more than a few times along with my lower control arm mounts.

especially for those running a d44. the stock cover on those are paper thin. get a heavy diff cover or diff skid. one rock will dent it enough to destroy your ring gear.

yup, it'll fit. but it is just the front engine skid. it basically covers the steering linkages.

my steering rubbed on mine, so i had to modify it a bit. then just took it off because i was always messing with my steering for something.

all other stock skids should work. as for the gastank skid, if you have a factory hitch, you'll have to remove it to fit the skid, them bolt the hitch back up.

ROCK SLIDERS are your number one most important Armor. I guarantee the first trail you go on that is more hardcore than your driveway, you will hit your rocker panels on something. You'll know when you did, too, because you'll have nice air gaps between your doors and the frames and OBTW, you probably won't be able to open your doors anymore, either. Your number 2 most important armor will be a trnsfer case skid because the 50 pound head engineers at Jeep put the cross member right between the the tranny and the transfer case. So, you have this nise ALUMINUM, very vital organ of your XJ just hanging out in the breeze waiting to catch a rock and...well...let me just say that aluminum is much softer than most rock. If I had to pick a 3rd, I guess I would go with a gas tank skid. Even though, I still don't have a single scratch on my gas tank skid yet and I've been on some gnarly trails.

well, you get the cut out W.

and it looks like the warn one protects the bolts.

i have both warn ones, and they are heavy and take a beating.

Just buy new covers not those overlays..You can get a Solid Axle cover for the D30 for $65,,They don't have the 8.25 covers yet..The overlays IMHO are a waste of money just get a beefy cover and call it good. It's a two fold gain, stronger structure and protection, fill hole up higher which means more oil..win win..

Well as far as a gas tank skid goes if you don't have a stock skid you can find one at a junkyard for cheap and they are pretty sturdy if you go that route don't forget to grab the screw plates for the framerails.

mhm.

the ring style covers are decent if you dont wheel in rocks often. i liked my bad apple fab D30 cover and it worked well, but after a few RC trips the bottom of it was toast. anything that doesnt offer bolt protection (or countersunk bolts) is useless IMHO.

I am for sure getting that solid axle diff cover for my D30 but then what do I do for the rear? Just mix and match? isn't that kind of ghetto? I kinda want them to be the same you know? If solid had both they would already be on the jeep ha. Thanks for your input!
