Default skid plate fabrication/replacement

Hello Everyone,

I noticed that the front skid plate is pretty heavy. I mainly use my jeep (nowadays) for my commute. Its pretty much my daily driver but I'm lucky that I can walk to work everyday. I was wondering if anyone knew or anything lighter or made something. I'm guessing you need it because it helps holding down the under-body water barrier. So driving without it isn't an option. I wouldn't throw out the original skid plate. I'm just thinking of something lighter to replace it.

Yea I'm pretty sure its the stock unit. I don't see any markings on it otherwise to make me believe its an aftermarket skid plate.

id just remove the guard and water barrier. makes it easier to work on your rig and the stock guard causes issues with approach angles. JMO.

That's what I noticed. I made sure to use this opportunity to remove the last 3-4 years worth of road grime off the oil pan and the sides of the engine. It didn't help letting the valve cover leak for about a year. Now its looking pretty clean. I'm going to also power wash the radiator with some simple green and water then let is soak and hit it with a rinse down of water.

I'm also debating replacing the serpentine belt since I have easy access, as well.
