Hey man you never know. Some people might throw some wires on it thinking it will do something haha. I was curious as to if and how he did it. Not saying XJwonders is like this at all but some people are just plain dumb, lol!Originally Posted by EZEARL
You weren't serious about thinking XJwonders meant wiring up his mechanical fan?
I did not fix anything yet. Right now if you go look at the fan setup on the XJ the mechanical fan is mounted on the passenger side of the engine not the center. But if you look at a TJ or a ZJ they both have a single fan mounted on the 4 bolts that come off the water pump to hold the pulley on. If you look at the belt diagram you will see what I mean.
There are two spots labeled fan on the xj belt routing. The one that I want to use is the one labeled WP and Fan. Right now there is only the water pump pulley that is mounted in that location nothing else. As you can see the other fan pulley is not on center with the engine. I have had plenty of cars and trucks over the years with this fan setup an never had any problems. I know that the rad in the XJ is wide and short but I feel that with the right shroud i think that it will work, and if it does not then I will put it back the way it is now and leave it be. Thanks for all of the concerns guys. I will put up some pics when I get it done.

Actually Ford trucks have an electrical connection to lock the clutch when the air is on. A friend of mine has an 07 f150 with that set up on it. It it strange to see it at first then you see the wire going to the core support with the plug on it for the lock up.Originally Posted by Epk5150

Please do. I am curious as to how you will fit another fan that close to the stock one. I feel there would be lots of clearance issues. I am assuming by you not responding that you are 100% positive your e-fan motor is blown?

^^ Confusion because of the word 'and'.
My mechanical fan is mounted to a switch,
the ignition switch when it hits 'start'. lol

Sounds like something ol' Red Green would do.

the motor is blown. I have tried every way to get it to come, I even wired it to the battery and nothing happened. I am not planning on using two mechanical fans just one heavy duty fan mounted to the water pump.Originally Posted by Epk5150

Oh gotcha, well good luck with that. Do you have any ideas as to how yet? I am assuming you will have to fabricate a custom shroud or at least make some brackets to use an existing one.

Sure, just overlap the blades and phase them to run in between the other. Like the twin rotor helicopters.Originally Posted by XJwonders

Again, what is the presumed advantage to mounting the fan to the water pump. It's not all that far off center. Seem if you want to get rid of the e-fan, you could just fabricate a new shroud.

I'm going to use the existing one and build off of it to cover the rest of the rad for a prototype and then fab a new from there.Originally Posted by Epk5150

This is gettin' strange. Two mechanical fans with one wired to the ignition switch. LOL!
Guess y'all know this thread won't do much for CF's knowledge credibility.

Lol, I go off of how things are worded. I'm no English major but I do my best to grammar properly. Some people have some crazy ideas and I don't mind having them elaborate on them for my amusement. Who knows, he may be on to the next great mod for our Jeeps!
