Default Short Block Advice

I was just wondering if anyone on here has ever used these guys for a short block for a rebuild. I am thinking about putting one in. My XJ runs excellent but has always had a rattle under acceleration and goes away closer to 1500 rpm's
Here is a link to what I am kicking around;https://www.sandjengines.com/rebuilt...icationID=9842
or is there any other company that you guys would recommend?

Kinda silly to put an engine in it if the flex plate is cracked or the exhaust mount is rotted.

It is highly unlikely the engine is the problem. Have you done any diagnostics before deciding on a new engine.

The noise is defiantly internal engine noise.
If you go to episode 5 on this is why I suspect the lower rod hearing 'cause this is exactly how my engine runs, except it has pretty good power. Just the rattle under load. My XJ is in surprisingly great shape for the year and if I decide to do the short block it won't be till next winter. I don't want to stroke it just want a good running stock engine. Added torque I'll depend on gearing for.

If it was a rod bearing, it would have failed by now.

Check the flexplate and bolts.

Agreed. Something like the rod bearing is a major failure and you are on borrowed time if you can hear one. It is highly unlikely that you have been driving all this time on a bad rod bearing. Start simple and try some of the other suggestions given by members so far.

In regards to your original post, check out the visitor posts on their Facebook page (scroll down some it's on the left hand side):

It looks like most people have good experiences with them, but there are a handful of bad ones too.

I would love to hear directly from a third party instead of reviews. Just wanted to do some homework, while we get to the root cause of the issue.

Everyone thanks for your responses, I will investigate the noise thoroughly before we drive it much more. and go from there.

Do this first and if it is running well keep on going till you need one that is my game plan, but mine just keeps running well.
