Default Shifting back from 4L

I always find it difficult to shift back from 4L to N to 4H to 2H. It fights back, and becomes very hard. Any idea?

Even in Neutral you might encounter grinding as the guts still spin. It takes a little bit of patience. And you do need to be stopped.

Sometimes I give up and just stop the vehicle, put the transmission in Park, then shift the transfer case. But that's not often.

I've only had this happen once to me. What worked for me was to put it back into 4L and roll forward a few inches. Then it went into N, and 2H just fine. I've been waiting for it to happen again to see if I can repeat this "corrective action"

Mines does the same thing. If it gets stuck drive forward very slowly and it will usually pop out into neutral

Drive forward at a very very low speed, maybe a couple miles/hr barely creeping. Immediately put the transmission in neutral and while the Jeep is still moving then put the TC in neutral. The whole procedure should take a second or so. Yeah, you might hear some grinding.

The trick is to throw the Tcase in neutral while the Jeep is still barely moving with the transmission in neutral. And not at a high speed roll rate.

Similar to the old clash box manual transmissions before syncros when shifting gears. Where the gear movement allowed the gears to mesh easier.

Works for me every time. If it don't then you might have something else going on.

Default Back up a few feet

Back up a few feet. Takes the tension//strain off transfer case innards and makes it easy to shift out of 4lo.
