I know this topic has been discussed a lot here but I need some advice or experiential knowledge about the 3 transmission control solenoids that the AW4 tranny uses. I've got a 2001 XJ Limited 4.0L. There's an intermittent shifting problem where the trans will seem to jump out of gear and back down to the gear before it when it reaches about 45-50 or 55-60. If I stomp on the gas it will downshift like it should and eventually upshift like it should once I reach higher speeds. This is never consistent, I cannot make this happen, it just happens but it seems to happen more on long trips when the tranny is hotter. It won't happen for a week or more then one day it will just start doing it. I've already adjusted the kick-down cable several times and pretty sure it's not that. So I figure it must be one of the solenoids and most likely the 3rd-4th gear one. The prices are all over the place on these. On eBay I see all three going for around $60-$70. I see the whole tranny kit(gasket, filter, and 3 solenoids) for about $90. But when I go onto NAPA or AdvanceAuto or any other auto part store ONE solenoid is over $250! The parts on eBay look exactly the same. Has anyone purchased these on eBay? I don't understand the huge price difference for the same part.

The more I read about the AW4 the more confused I get. Seems there were lots of different versions of this trans for lots of different car makes and models. I don't know if there were different configurations of it for XJ's but I was able to get some pics of my trans. I see lots of different solenoids listed for the AW4 so I hope I don't get the wrong ones.
