Everyone hates that. It's like watching a relative being loaded in an ambulance.

This job has been hated by many, but i dont find it too bad. Just need a floor jack, jack stands, ratchet, 11mm socket and a ton of extensions.

Ten to one this is your issue. Hopefully the dealership you took it to has a decent tech who won't just throw parts at it.

OverlandXJ is probably going to be right on with the CPS (crankshaft position sensor) being bad.

Good luck, hope it doesn't cost you to much.

It is located on the bellhousing on the drivers side near the top. It is a small pickup that has wires running to it. There should be a plug in the harness that you can unplug and re-plug to help clean the contacts of the plug. This may allow it to start.

Here is a fairly decent explanation: LINK.
Here are some pictures of the CPS. LINK.

This is a very common occurance on the 4.0L engine. I always carry a spare CPS in my box of goodies.

Hey Finney... XJ?2010 summed it up. Guess it was a "DeDeDe Moment"

Glad to hear it was a simple fix.

Get a new battery? or just fixed the terminals?

Glad to hear you found the problem. New cables are always a good addition to any Jeep.
