I left the car running for 3 minutes to pickup my dog the other day. When I got out of the car, all was good but when I came back: CEL on, AC no longer working and my backup camera no longer works.

Pulled the following codes:

p1491
p0443
p0130
p0136

These codes are related to the radiator fan circuit, purge valve circuit and a couple of o2 sensors.

Jeep ran just fine on the way home aside from the no ac and camera malfunction of course. I’ve checked the fuses and they look ok. I’m trying to test the radiator fan relay or may just try replacing it. Also, as much as this sounds like a ground issue I have beast mode ground connections. Battery to body and engine to body look great.

What can you think of that would cause all these symptoms at the same time. There’s no way all these things went bad independently at the same time….as I type this it just feels like it has to be a ground issue so I’ll check again, but any thoughts aside from that?

 

The backup camera not working shouldn't be related to anything else other than the fuses for the radio. If the radio is working, the backup camera should be as well. I couldn't tell you about the other codes, but the backup camera (since the XJ never offered one, and it would be hooked to an aftermarket radio) shouldn't be affected by anything else other than that.

totally agree. It’s so odd. The camera is indeed powered by the aftermarket head unit and grounded to the body. It’s controlled by the reverse light switch which is the only connection to stock systems, but that switch has nothing to do with those codes…maybe it’s a coincidence that everything went out at once…weird.

 

Found rat droppings (I think) on the engine…
