Default Serpentine Belt rubs Timing cover

I've owned a YJ, ZJ, TJ, and now an XJ. I've done just about anything and everything on the 4.0L and can't figure this one out.

So I picked this 1990 Cherokee up yesterday for $800. The water pump was just replaced and is obviously new. During the 2 hour drive home I started hearing a chirp. I thought it was just a pulley so I replaced the idler, tightened the belt and started it back up. The chirp has turned into a squeal and I can see where the belt is sliding back on the fan belt pulley about an 1/8" and the belt rubs on the timing cover just to the right of the HB. I can't figure out why it keeps doing this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is your harmonic balancer starting to separate? There are two parts to it seperated by rubber. When it starts to go, the outer part will move out of allignment with the inner part. Maybe check allignment on all of your pullys. Something has to be out of whack.

I checked the alignment of the rest of the pulleys last night so I'm almost positive that the Harmonic Balancer is toast. I guess I will change that this weekend. I might as well flush the coolant system as well since I will have the radiator out.
