I was washing my rig yesterday and cleaning the condenser radiator with a water hose when I noticed that if the water directly hits the serpentine belt, it quits turning for a short time. The belt is tight and installed correctly...I have never run into this before with a vehicle that has a self tension on it...do they go bad or could this be something else??? The belt has about 5k miles on it so I wouldn't think its streched. A friend mentioned he has roughed up the tension pulley with sandpaper before to get better grip but I'm thinking just replace.

 

a 1990 does not have a self tensioning system on it ,belts a little loose if its the 90. But self tensioner will go bad

 

Ok I guess I was mistaken on the self tensioner....I was trolling the board and found a post that says there is a tension bolt under the power steering pump...I'm going to go check that out.
