I found a set of seats from a 1990 that are in really good condition for my 2 door, and I have my doubts about swapping over the brackets from my 95 seats to the 90 seats. I found people saying that the brackets swap over, and I’ve found people saying they don’t without additional fabrication. Can anyone tell me why or why not they won’t swap over?
Okay. The seat bases are the same from 84-94 1/2. Some 95’s had the old design, but most after 94 have the raised seat brackets. The design of the 84-94 seats are different from the 95+ seats, and those brackets will not swap over from seat to seat.
However, there are brackets online that are able to adapt a 94 and older seat to a 95+ XJ. And as far as I can tell, the ZJ seats can swap over from the entire production period into an XJ by swapping the brackets if you have a 95+, and the seats from 95-01 are interchangeable as far as I can tell.
If anyone is wondering, I cannot find a bracket to adapt a 84-94 seat to a 95+. I thought they existed, but most are to adapt aftermarket seats to the floor pan. If you want to swap in earlier seats to a later XJ, you’ll have to remove the seat riser. I’m not sure of where the seat goes, but if anyone could send me pictures of a 94 and earlier floor pan in an XJ, that would be awesome
They do make replacement front seat mounts for the 95+ setup. Soo converting your older jeep to a newer seat doesn't have to be soo involved with adapting old lowers to newer upper bits.
Requires welding and depending on how clean you want your carpet looking a carpet swap as well but in comparison to some booty setups ive seen over the years for brackets and such this is a rather simple solution if you have the means to do soo yourself
