Seat belt and air bag light on 2000 GC

Seat belt and air bag light on 2000 GC
Have a 2000 GC Laredo that the seat belt light comes on when first starting up, then a second or two later the air bag light comes and stays on (both stay on).
Does a bad switch on the seat belt cause the air bag system to show a fault. Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated.
