Seafoam Questionnn
It does not make chunks of carbon or anything else magically fall off metal surfaces.
From the same FAQ.

Sea Foam cleans oil deposits and varnish in your crankcase by safely/slowly re liquefying the old oil residue so contaminants may flow and be filtered.

I have been using Seafoam for quite a while now on both 1990 and 1991 XJs.
I find it lets the engines idle smoother and perform better.
If I use it in the oil, I check the oil after 100 miles. If it's really dirty, I change it. If it's still clean I'll check it at a later time. IMO use your best judgement, but don't go changing oil to just change the oil. That's a waste of money imo.

Ya and I don't want re-liquified oil floating around my engine too long, do you? Who knows how long that crappy oil has been in there. It doesn't make chunks fall off, but it does loosen it up and carbon deposits DO come off, that's why the oil is so black when you change it... even after just a couple hundred miles and I don't want my engine using that crappy oil for very long... certainly not 3,000 miles
Do you have any idea how your lubrication system works?
The first place the oil goes after leaving the oil pump is the filter. If your filter isn't trapping contaminents then you need a new and better filter.
As stated in the FAQ(which you obviously haven't read) the cleaning process is not instantanious, it happens slowly over time. The Seafoam must be moved throughout the engine and the only way that will happen is if the motor is running and moving oil through the filter.
If you've got hunks of crap big enough to damage the pump then you've got a lot more to be concerned about than any amount of any cleaner can handle.
Seafoam will not damage your motor or harm it in any way if you follow the manufactures instructions. it's easy, effective, and goes a great job.
If it was a crappy product that caused "Floaty carbon Syndrome" do really think that it would still be on the shelves after all these years.
Seems that you've made up your mind not to believe anything but your own narrow-minded opinion.

I must admit I think the hugest factor for longevity in the life of ones car is regular fluid changes, and in my mind I say "better safe than sorry"... That's the only reason I'd change it before service interval
