I went to look at a 94' Cherokee Laredo 4x4 today and everything was perfect on it until the test drive. When you are driving it is perfect. The engine sounds and performs well and the tranny shifts perfect.
However, when it is idling or at a stop there is a vibration that you can feel in the seats.
What could be causing this? Is this a big issue? I am looking to buy this thing on Monday.
Any advice will be gratefully appreciated.

Vibration could be caused by many things. I would think it is still vibrating while driving but it might be covered up by normal bumps and jolts of driving on the road. Check the motor mounts, they could be worn or loose. If it runs good and you only notice the vibs while at idle I would get it. A jeep will need some work from time to time but its a good thing and its fun to wrench on stuff....Buy the jeep.

While on a smooth road it does not vibrate at all, only in park or at a stop in drive. The vibe is very noticeable, almost irritating. A carbonated drink in the cup holder would go flat pretty quick.
I think I have convinced myself that it is the flywheel after doing some thinking.
The fact that it vibes in park says this....The only things turning is the internal parts of the engine and the flywheel. No wheels, shafts, bearings or anything of that nature are turning.
As well, when it shifts there is NO thud that would say the tranny mount is bad. When I rev it, the engine does not move enough to justify a mount being bad.
The engine sounds great btw.

Harmonic Balancer? Motor Mounts? BTW, the motor dosent have to move much for the mounts to be worn out. Part of the exhaust touching the floor or something else and transmitting a vibration? Who knows. Id buy it and check it out real close.

I would guess motor mounts too. I had a nissan pickup that would do this, and once i hit the gas it would go away. Get under it tomorrow when you go to buy it and check the motor mounts. Should be a solid rubber bushing in there filling up the mounts. If there is not, then that is probably the problem.
