Look forward to not only replacing your fuel pump module assembly but purging out the fuel line from the tank to the fuel rail, and removing your fuel injectors and sending them out to be cleaned, if not replaced.

A word about fuel pump modules: I installed a Carter module assembly 8 months/610 miles ago and the pump (regulator/filter) check valve has failed already. Suggest going with a Bosch fuel pump module assembly (the original OEM module). I'm lucky (to an extent) that I made a fuel pump trap door mod in my cargo bay where I can change the regulator without dropping the tank. Just saying.

Default summary

ok, so, this is long over due... I removed the gas tank, and completely cleaned it out after removing the fuel pump assembly. it was a HUGE pain in the butt removing the gas tank, as it was under the protective shield which was under the trailer hitch assembly which was held in place in an awkward fashion by aftermarket shackles... ANYWAY after removing the gas tank, and taking out the fuel pump assembly, and empyting out all the gas, and then making sure the inside was completely clean (holding the flashlight in my mouth and swiping the inside completely dry with about 3 rolls of paper towels..) i noticed that the stuff i was getting out with the paper was mostly little shards of brass. i took the the old fuel pump apart (which would run fine when supplied power) and saw that the induction fan (i'm using big words because i am not sure what its actually called) seemed to be like half the size it should be, and that it was made of brass. I installed a new fuel pump, put it all back together, added fuel, supplied power to the pump, and bled the fuel out at the rail until it was clean. I am now getting proper fuel pressure and the jeep once again runs like a champ.
so
what does this have to do with seafoam?
well
i find it exceedingly odd that the fuel pump discintigrated by chance on the same day that i introduced seafoam to the system. my theory is thus:

the induction fan in the fuel pump was either old, faulty, cracked, or, my personal favorite held together purely by 'gunk'. when i put seafoam into the gas tank, the old/faulty/cracked/gunked together induction fan could not withstand the super awesome cleaning/de-gunking power. thus the fan discintigrated, and after this point, i could only get half the fuel pressure needed.

again, this is only a theory, but we looking at the worn down brass fan, all the brass flakes in the line/gas tank, and the fact that it happened to fail 5 minutes after introducing seafoam, this makes the most sense to my brain.

So, long story short, i added seafoam, jeep runs really bad, i changed the fuel pump, and it runs fine again. Thanks for all your help along the way!!!

Wow man. Lucky that your Jeep's still in good shape after brass bits! Glad to hear you got it sorted!

Is the word you're looking for 'impeller'?

Wow crazy story, thanks for updating. Have you been limping along for 2 months or did you just park it? What is your new reading on the Fuel Pressure, you said the old one was 19 psi.

Last that blows my mind that you have to drop the fuel tank to get at the Fuel pump, sounds like an insane project.

Heheh, that may be why I was asking

My new problem child is a 2 starter in the morning, as in it wont start on first try. I crank it for 5 seconds, wait a second or two, then crank it again and it fires right up. I am thinking it is likely a fuel filter or maybe a fuel pump causing that little issue.

Fuel pump module check valve no doubt.

Do a fuel pressure check at the fuel rail with a fuel pressure test gauge.

You should see 49.2 +/- 5 psi at the rail with the engine running. Shut down engine. Fuel pressure should hold for 30 minutes down to 30 psi. If it drops off rapidly, it's either the fuel pump check valve or the fuel injectors leaking down. Some kits you can rent have the proper hoses, etc. for pinching off hoses to isolate the pump from the injectors.

Use a Bosch fuel pump module assembly as a replacement. Have fun.
