Any thoughts? I have been reading and searching for info on Seafoam because I have always ran Lucas in the past..

I just bought this Cherokee its a 2001 sport 4.0.. Nothing really wrong with it but I wouldn't mind a good flush of the engine and fuel system cleansing.

 

for cost its Lucas. You can get the gallon container that will give you about 6 cleans for like $4 more than a bottle of seafoam. Don't buy the Small Lucas bottle its a waste of money. One of the only significant differences is that Seafoam is also a fuel stabilizer and Lucas is not. Hope this helps.

 

They both do basically the same thing, as I'm sure it's prolly a lot of the same chemicals. Try seafoam and let us know which one you think is better.

 

i run seafoam in my gas all the time. just put the lucas in my oil yesterday and its already took the tick outta the motor.

i use royal purple and was wantin to try the seafoam thing in your gas and oil but wasnt sure cuz im runnin the good stuff already

 

ive never used seafoam in the oil. use it ALL the time in my dads boat shop though in fuel systems. some really good stuff

 

Yes you can use it with synthetics, but I use Lucas for oil.

 

and thats not gonna hurt the seals like regular oil will to a motor used to synthetic oil?

I too use royal purple in everything. I also use seafoam. I use about 3/4 of the recommended dose for the oil, run the truck for about 3000 miles and do another change, this time no seafoam. Use it everyother time, or if you start to notice ticking.

 

No it shouldn't I bought my Jeep back in the summer and for every oil change I have ran Valvoline full syn and a quart of Lucas oil Stabilizer just because she burns a little oil I have had no problems.

 

I have always had REALLY good luck with BG products, my mother has worked at BG for 30 years and one of the perks of working there is you get free product. I use the "supercharger2" almost every other tank of gas just to keep things nice and clean, then ever other month or so i run a can of "44k" through it. The only issue i have EVER had is when i used it on my 90 F150, it cleaned so much **** out of the fuel system that it clogged the fuel filter, which in my opinion is a good thing that it knocked all that garbage loose!

i always use it thru the gas, works really really good

i would be careful about putting it in thru the oil, i have heard horror stories from people doing that, if you do put some in the oil....very smalll amounts

but gas, i put a whole can in to a full tank of gas

my jeep just seems to run a little better with it.

I have not used Lucas, but have used seafoam for years in fuel systems when storing for the winter.

 

I use lucas fuel cleaner every couple of months. It works great. Lucas also claims to have some oil in it that is good for lubrication of the fuel pump. I dont know how true that is but It does do a great job.

 

For problematic fuel systems, BG44K is excellent. A little spendy, but really works well.

My favorite fuel system cleaner is "TECHRON", mfg. by Chevron. Wally World has the concentrate for around $6.50. Very good at optimizing fuel injector spray pattern

Seafoam contains a good "stoddard solvent" which is also good at cleaning fuel systems

I've heard good things about Lucas as well.

Stay away from the STP and other $2.00 cleaners that line the parts store shelves. They are not effective!
