Default same newb...new problem...axle vac disconnect

i have had a problem with my vaccuum lines not engaging the 4wd.
i pull it into 4lo,the 4wd light flicks on instantly... but front wheels dont spin.....
i have heard you can take off the housing and put a bolt between the 'whatchamacallit' so that the sleeve stays over to the left all the time, instead of being held by a vacuum in place....
will this hurt her?

this is kinda what i mean

is it a good idea?
will it break the front axles?

please and thanx guys

You can either use the bolt idea or do what I did and disassemble the motor and place a number of washers on the shift fork shaft. It will keep the collar engaged and you will have power to the front wheels. It will not harm anything. It is the same as having the later model one piece shaft on the passenger side. It does not keep it locked in to 4wd because that is only done by engaging the transfer case.

I have the Posi Lok system, whats cool with that is you can put it in 4Lo for some extra pulling power and not be in 4X4.
