Default A safety warning to those with rotted floor pans

Hey guys, I was tearing my XJ apart the other day to fix the floorboard rust when I noticed my (lower) seat belt mount hanging on by 2 inches or so of rusty flimsy steel. It probably would've ripped off if I had got in an accident. Scary and dangerous. Just warning all you guys!

Isn't that attached to the rocker?

On my '99 it was attached right down near the floorboards on the frame pillar. Rust had eaten all the way up to there from the floor. Mine is pretty darn rusty though.

There was a recall on some Xj's regarding the seat belt bolts ripping out of the floor in the event of an accident if I remember correctly.

Makes sense if it was due to rust damage. I welded a good amount of reinforcement straps to the floor.

IIRC the recall was due to a design flaw, not rust. No doubt rust will make the problem MUCH worse though.

My seat belt broke my shoulder in an accident and is still intact in the floor, so I think mine are good.
