I grew up always using a hoist and moved so no longer have it. So I haven't used stands very much. Can anyone give some examples of safe places to put the jack stands on a Cherokee?

Either on the axle tubes front and rear as close to the wheels as you can get for stability, or if you need the axles hanging under the unibody "frame" rails right behind the lower control arm mount in the front and right by the front leaf spring mount in the rear.

I had my jeep jacked up on some cheap rusted jacks for like 2 or 3 months 24/7. I was under it ever day messin around and with stuff and movin the jeep. It's amazing it never fell, I realize now how STUPID I was. Thank God I'm still here..

Wouldn't matter if the grain is vertical. Besides, no guarantee the jack stand with catch the falling vehicle correctly, a wood block will never miss.

When my life is on the line, I'll take a wood block over a jack stand any day.

I know we are talking about guys working on the rigs at home but you would not believe some of the things I have seen people do to cars and Jeeps in junkyards to get stuff off of them.
