Rust pics, please help!!
Can a restoration shop sandblast this, and fix it in some way to restore it? I don't even think I can put a lift on because one of these spots is right by the upper control arm connection, and I don't want it busting on me. Has anyone gone through this, and can it be fixed? Pics enclosed.

Anything is possible...ish. Whats behind it? Anything, or is it just as rotted as that piece? If there is something solid behind it, it can most likely be fixed.
As already stated, its gonna take some work.

It's an 2001, from Ohio, with only 78K. Carfax looks good(lake sinking free and all). I just talked to a sandblaster and restoration shop, sent him the pics. He thinks he can fix it for me and reinforce it with new steal. I'll let you know.

I know, but the car is in good shape other than the undercarriage rust, so I'm just going to try and get that fixed I guess. I was just curious if anyone else has paid to have this done?

Holy %@^ Thats terrible. How much is he gonna charge you?
I can't really tell but I hope thats not the steering box side.
if it is then I'd get rid of it. Just end up with problems over and over again.

Im curious about the price too. I dont have any rust quite that bad. only near the gas tank opening. And i see bubbles of rust under the paint in spots. Good deal of rust on everything in the underside most likely from 4 foot plus snow and ice melt and sand exposure. But still i love my xj and i want to put the time and effort into it to give it the full life span then gut it and put it to gether with a new one til its franken xj

I would pass on buying that rig, that is only the rust you can see, there is just too many areas that will also be rusted out.

That is really bad. My 93 had most of the floors rotted away but the "frame" was still in mint cond.
Even if you can get someone to fix that I would be hesitant about wheeling it and having some other part of the frame you cant see the rust on break in half.

Well, that's exactly what I'm going to do. Found a great referral in town that comes highly recommended. He soda blasts and restores cars. He took a look at it today and said he's seen much worse, restored much worse(if you can believe that). He did some tapping around all over the place, and the pictures represented the absolute worst parts. There were only a couple of bad areas, but he said most of the frame was still in good shape. He will blast it, take off the bottom parts, clean them up, and metal reinforce the problem areas, then repaint it. I'm glad I started this thread with some rusty pics. I'm turning it in on Wednesday this week, and should have it back by the end of next week, so I will send pics when it is complete, for those who are interested, or going through the same stuff.
