Default Running too cold?

My 1999 Cherokee Sport (4.0) used to run about 210 water temp.

I just had the thermostat and housing replaced, and now the water temp is running about 177.

This seems too cold, and I am thinking that he put in the wrong thermostat or that it is stuck open???

What should I do?

TNX.

Rick.

Ask him what temperature thermostat he used. That's the place to start. He may have done 180* maybe even less

If he put in a 180 thermo, then is that too cold. Should I ask him to replace it with a 195? what is the correct type?

Anything other than a fail safe brand one. Yes you need 195. Also make sure you electric fan isn't staying. When warming up touch both hoses and see f they are both hot before she reaches 190*. Someone will chime in to remind me what the good tstat brand is

That's odd.....especially since Chrysler/Jeep offered a 180 stat thru the dealer parts dept.

.......and both hoses won't be hot while it is warming up.

Stock for 1999 is 195 degrees. Go visit the dealer, for some reason aftermarket thermostats have a high failure rate in our Jeeps.

My point was if there was a lower tstat then 195* ten it would start heating up earlier then needed.

U r going to have to explain that.....how does a stat lower than 195 start heating up earlier? Wouldn't a 180 and 195 both heat up at the same rate?

I've always had great results from Stant SuperStats in numerous vehicles, including the XJ.

Not the rate that the actual vehicle heats up. I'm talking about when the stat opens to feel the lower hose. The jeep will get hot regardless of the stat but a 180* stat opens earlier. Best bet would be or OP to ask the person that Installed the tstat , which one he install.
