Running with no cat-back
Does run without a cat-back for their exhaust? I was thinking about doing this cause I saw some vids on youtube with this setup and it sounded awesome (even though sound quality on youtube is trash). Although I have been reading around and apparently some back pressure is needed for the exhaust...

Are you talking about running without a catalytic converter or running without a muffler and tail pipe? If you mean cat converter then yes it is illegal, there are federal regulations for that. As for no muffler and tail pipe check your local laws on that one as each state is different based on db levels. As for performance you aren't going to gain anything at all if any.

Most if not all states have a law requiring a catalytic converter. You will be so loud you'll have the fuzz all over you all day every day. That is of course if it's illegal in your state which I'm guessing it is.

As long as you keep your cat in place you should be fine. I ran with a 90 degree bend off my cat exiting right before my rear wheel for a bit and it was just fine. Only problem was that it was unbearably loud and obnoxious. If it's a temporary thing, go for it, but it will probably leave you wanting a cat-back anyways.

you know it is easy for every body to tell him it is OK but when he removes his muffler and gets a ticket are you all going to help pay for it. you need to do some research in your state before you do any thing regarding your exhaust and removing mufflers or cat's

First...
A cat is REQUIRED by US Federal law... if you are in the states, you have to have one, period end of the story.
Anything after that, you really need to research your local restrictions. Some states have more restricive requirements than others. Some go so far to require OEM spec. systems with no additional noise allowed. Some states require almost nothing..
Also depending on where you wheel at, there may be some additional requirements there. Some of the nation forest areas require that you have spark-arresting equipment installed. The closest off-road park to me has a decibel level listed in their rules... But I have never seen them out there testing anyone....
