I ran around for a few days with no cat or muffler and couldn't stand it. I love loud exaust and it sounded cool, but the pitch it made and the resonace gave me a splitting headache after about 5 min. Now I run around with not cat and a super 40 dumping 10 inches before the rear axle. Havent had one problem with cops.

Again...guys...not running a cat is ILLEGAL!! Therefore it is not condoned by CF!! If you chose to run an illegal exhaust, keep it off the board. We at CF want to promote the sport of off-roading in a positive light. Things such as illegal exhaust systems are a detriment to the hobby. Thanks for understanding the sensitivity of this issue, as it leads to land closures!!

There you go, running an XJ without a catalytic converter is ILLEGAL, you're not even supposed to remove the OEM cat if nothing is wrong with it...

Actually, if it is an off-road vehicle (not driven on the street) then you dont have to have emmisions equipment. But, for all intesive purposes, it is illegal otherwise.

I am going to stress this again. I am about to start deleting any and all posts asking about removing a cat.. Performance gains or losses do not matter. We do not discuss any illegal modification of our rigs.

well im not sure about over where you are but in minnesota and wisconsin there are very strict bumper height laws(i belive MN is 27" and WI is 25" but i am not sure) but these laws basicly make any lifted cherokee, wrangler or any other truck for that matter illegal, even with the 3" lift. we also has a law about tires protruding from fenders, in wisconsin 1/2 an inch is the tolerated amount and ive been pulled over for it with my blazer having stock rims but 35" tires sticking 3/4" out of the fenders. no ticket, thank god it was a nice trooper but they can get you with some heafty tickets on tires, bumper heights, exhaust, headlight height, tail light height, basicly everything about a lifted 4x4.

I am not going to argue semantics, all I am saying is we do not discuss running without a Cat converter end of story. Breaking lift laws do not harm the environment, give more ammo to those who dislike our sport/hobby and making wheelers look irresponsible. So I will say it again we will not be discussing anything to do with running without a catalytic converter. Are we clear?

Lift laws vary by state, emission laws do not. As mentioned, emissions violations give reason to close trails. Lift laws, fenders laws, light laws etc... don't as they are not harmful to the environment the activist are trying to close.

I realize the rules concerning such things may seem harsh but I commend CF for enforcing such a rule. Everyone has an obligation to maintain the areas they wheel, and though you may not think so your actions on the trail or on the net can have consequences for yourself and others. You may not visit the big name wheeling areas and may not be aware of the ones that are being closed, but public land used by other is being closed because of the supposed environmental damage being caused by wheelers. Though it's not right to classify a whole group because of the actions of few.. that is what is happening. Fixitman... this wasnt directed directly at you... just a rant in general. With out the positive involvement of wheelers as a community our children may not have but only a handful of private parks to wheel in.

pro's
- all the boys at the local muddin hole will think you are cool and you can exchange slaps on the ***

con's
-illegal
-loss in power and torque
-annoying (not only for yourself but for fellow wheelers and motorists)

-hinders air quality
-makes boys at the local muddin hole like you
