?? Sorry if it is but I didn't know where else to put this and it is electrical in nature. I bought a jeep around 10 months ago and it had an electrical issue, the running lights and the stereo head unit would stay on. I rewired the stereo myself and got both of them to shut off, somehow that affected the lights?
Now for the recent news. I got in an accident where I hit a parked car (no I wasn't drunk I was just an idiot rushing to school and sideswiped a truck
) Now the front right fender is bashed in.Instead of paying a mechanic $1600 to get it back to normal, and bone stock... I bought a RC lift kit and put it on myself!!
Now I have to figure out where the hell that is coming from... It has been a PITA since day one, but has been so rewarding working on it myself! Any wise mechanical/electrical gurus or sages out there have any advice for a guy in need? I have no idea where to begin with this one. Is there any way it could have something to do with the wiring for the tow hitch? How could it have just started doing this? Just throwing stones in the dark here...
I have been having the same issue and been looking up different stuff....i recently replaced my manufacture headlights to HID's and about several weeks later ....the headlights will not turn off once i turn off the Jeep and pull the key out....i push in the headlight switch and the lights go off but then i turn the jeep off and the lights come on and will not go off....i have to disconnet the battery....i see folks posting that its the daytime running light module ($50) or the headlight switch ($15)....so i am in the process of trying to figure it out.... i plan on replacing the module 1st since it is a simple plug and play.... the headlight switch i will have to remove a portion of the dash.... so if you find out somthing before i do......please share...

i had a similar problem about 3 years ago. i was in an underground parking and my lights wouldn't turn off. then i started smelling burned plastic/wires and eventually smoke coming from the engine bay. i had no diagram or nothing so i pulled all the fuses in the engine bay 1 by 1 and eventually found the one that turned the damn lights off (like you said, it also shut off the radio unit because it's on the same circuit)
I ended up looking for the daytime running lights module mentionned in the post above, but it was way too much for what I was ready to spend. a friend mechanic told me to simply unplug it, which i did, and didn't do anything else. it is located (at least for my 96) under the wiring harness, besides the wiper washer fluid bottle, top left of the engine bay.
if you end up doing the same, here's what will change with your lights
-headlight switch on the off position : no lights are on.
-headlight switch on the first position (1 click) : marker lights, parking lights and rear lights turn on
-headlight switch on the second position (2 clicks) : all lights are on, and if I'm not mistaken the rear lights are also a little brighter
