Nah. The heater hose outlet on the thermostat housing lets a jillion times more coolant pass than that hole and they still warm up........
Well all I know is that this was reply to a post I made.
I thought what the heck...pretty simple to drill a hole in the stat.
My engine runs cooler and I can't remember the members name that told me to try that.
I had a good mix of anti-freeze, brand new water pump, good working electric and clutch fan and it was still over heating.
It would over heat if sitting idling or if I ran my Cherokee in 4 wheel drive.
It can't hurt...what you got to loose?
I was fed up to the point of wanting to get rid of my Jeep because of the over-heating.
I guess...from what I remember... the member said, our Jeeps came with holes in the T-stat. Might have to search that one- jretzky.
Some of these old mechanics have some un-common solutions to our problem that work great.
I gave it a try and it worked.

Drilling a hole(s) in the stat does nothing more than slow down/delay quick engine warm-up to operating temp. Presuming the stat is functioning correctly, there's no way drilling hole(s) will prevent overheating by itself. U had to have done something besides just drilling a hole in the stat to solve a overheat issue.
Again, drilling a hole in the stat just delays proper engine warm-up.....nothing more.

Thanks to everybody...Got it fixed earlier today after working on the fan clutch...
I didn't think it was to bad until I got the new one...I had forgotten cause i had replaced it 6ish to 7 years ago.
And in my head(Thought process), i wasn't that worried cause that same old fan had shredded a chilton's that got open by the wind a month ago...Not the smartest move on my part but eh...
It had completely destroyed the book's guts before it stopped spinning. No damage was done to the radiator or hoses...
Took it for a test and tried to overheat it...Not a sign it was gonna climb, so thanks again to y'all for the help, i was gonna continue over-analyzing it... So I guess the life span of those clutches are roughly 5 years?
By the way I got over-ambitious, painted poorly but found out that pumpkin orange rust-oleum doesn't dry overnight...Wanted canary yellow but eh...
Again thank you all! I really appreciate that I got it fixed with your guy's help. That problem had been driving me nuts for a while...
