Running hot
I have a 98 XJ 4.0L 134000 miles. I had the engine replaced 2000 miles ago I got a new long block, they replaced the water pump, and the thermostat. It was still running around 225 on the highway. I just replaced the radiator last night, both of my fans are working and all of my fluids are topped off and I have 0 leaks. It is still running at 220. Just need some advice on what to do next I’m at witts end with this Jeep.

Man it was 98 degrees here in Phoenix on Monday. On my 96 I was running the AC and all of a sudden my dummy light went on and there went the AC. I turned it off and went on the heater. These motors like to run hot. I even got a new radiator cap and flushed the system, I have some brownish red gunk in the system which may be head sealant of some sort. Do you think the gunk in there will ever go away? How can I get it completely gone?

Yea right now it’s only been 80 these past few days so that’s what scaring me a bit. Today is suppose to be 92 so we’ll see that’s why I’m gonna test it after work about 430 so I’m praying for the best and that’s how my old one was. The fluid was green cause I flush it when it needs it but when I was inspecting the old radiator there was white spots from leaks and then then I looked inside it and it was red sludge in there

220 on the instrument cluster is more like 245. You have a problem on your hands.
does it get hotter in traffic or on the freeway?

It stays the same whether I’m in traffic or on the highway. Just read the thermostat housing with a infrared gun and it was 207 on the upper radiator hose, then 212 on the left side of the housing, and 218 on the right side near the temp sensor when the Jeep is saying 210 on the cluster

Mine runs warm too, I fought it all last summer. Seems to just be the way it is.
How sure are you the fan clutch is operating well? Does it have the fan shroud too?
Also, raise the front end up off the ground and burp the cooling system well
