Default Rubicon Express Lift Question

Ok, so I just bought a 1997 Jeep Cherokee. Its my first one and the whole purpose of it was to take it camping, off roading and rock crawling. I have talked to the guys at Rubicon Express and told them What I was looking to do. They suggested that I get the 7.5" Long Arm Lift Kit, cut the fenders and throw on some 35" tires. (Obviously there are many more things I'll need to do but right now the lift is just what I'm talking about)

I wanted to see what you guys thought. Is 7.5" on 35's too tall? I want to do Sierra Trek this next year. http://www.cal4wheel.com/sierra-trek.html

Re doesnt make a 7.5" kit for the xj.
Imo 5.5" with trimmed fenders and 35's would be good.

Price aside what do you think about the actual size of the lift?

Well, let's say you work in the sales department of a company that sells stuff, and you make a commission (usually a precentage of the total sale)- would you try to sell the least expensive item you could or would you try to sell the most expensive item you sell?

Ultimatly anything you do will depend on your budget. It will be wise to consider all the thing you must do WITH the lift and tires. Shocks are not included in that kit. Running 37" tires on a D35? I dont' think so. No lockers? Having all that ground clearence and big tires won't do you much good on that trip without lockers. You'll also want lots of body armor, rock rails, bumpers, tools, spare parts, and the list goes on and on.

On the other hand, I am a big fan of Rubicon Express lift kits. I had one myself and it treated me well over the years. I think their equipment is very good compared to most others. IMO 7.5" is pretty tall, especially if you plan on driving it on the highway at all.

Thanks for the info. Like I said in the post, I know there are so many other things I will need to get in order to make it real trail worthy. I simply wanted to see opinions on weather or not 7.5" on 35's was too tall for crawling or riding trails.

I road race motorcycles and a suspension for those are about $3000 and thats just for two wheels. I do understand that those guys may work on commission so I'm sure they would prefer big ticket items.

For the type of trails I'm talking about what would you suggest?
