rounded off driveshaft bolts. :(
I'm trying to install a new driveshaft and because I'm an idiot and used a 12 point 8mm wrench instead of a 6 point, I have rounded off 3 of my 4 driveshaft bolts. I've tried filing down one side of the bolt so I can hammer on a 7mm and spray the johnson out of it with liquid wrench and it just rounded off more. Am I missing something that I should try here? I can't fit an 8mm socket on it because it won't fit in that tight space. I just want to get my new driveshaft on so I can take it offroad again!

Dunno any good idea to get them out. If it's the rear DS you could drill them out and do this https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f51/re...version-28141/

i've been thinking of trying to drill them out or cut them off, but I think I'm going to try the irwin bolt out and hopefully it fits in that small of a space. If not, It looks like I might have to remove that transfer case and start hacking away at them.

I've tried the pipe wrench and it won't fit... I also tried grinding off the sides of the bolts to fit some vice grips on there and both have failed. Now I'm trying to get them off using the irwin bolt extractor but I have to hammer it on to the top of the bolt and I have no room to fit a hammer in there. This is a real PITA... I really hope I don't have to pull the transfer case

I had the same problem. I ended up grinding a new wrench size on the bolt, hit it with liquid wrench, worked slowly to turn the bolt and prayed. It took me the whole day but it finally unscrewed. The factory bolts were soft or something.

The factory bolts are super soft and everything just rounds them off more! I think I'm going to have to take xj1234's advice and weld a nut on top of it to get it off. I'm going to try the bolt outs one more time, but if they fail, I'm taking it to a shop and making them deal with it. I've never had to take any of my cars to a shop before, but I think this is just one of those times...
