Yeah I know I messed something up pretty bad but before I just throw parts at it I wanna know what to check and look for. O have a bad rattle around my exhaust and I'm gonna replace that no matter what. I REALLY overheated the engine. I wasn't paying attention and the needle was way past 260 on the gauge and now it's got a rough idle and feels like there is a sick *** cam in it like a hot rod. I haven't noticed any coolant in the oil yet but I keep checking regularly just in case. Any help is good help. Thanks

Your gonna need a leakdown test to see what was damaged.

Leakdown test is my favorite as DaddyCat mentioned, but if you can get your mitts on a compression gauge, you can start there.
Damage to the cylinder head gasket, head, or both is suspect.
Compression spec. is 120-150 psi, with no more than a 30 psi variation between cylinders.
Low or no compression on two adjacent cylinders indicates a blown head gasket.

Could also be cracked piston. Broken rings. Cylinder wall(s) galled. Plus head and/or head gasket. Galled bearings.
These engines are tough, but not indestructible.
You probably melted it.

Damn that's a lot of bad stuff makes for one sad panda lol. I will have to check compression and all that fun stuff. That will have to wait until the week after next since I am on spring break and no access to tools since my tools are at school. Monday will start the leak down test. Thank you everyone for your input a lot of good theories now I have a place to startmi next thread might be how to put in a chevy vortec or cummins. Lol

Update well I have a cracked block so that means new motor when this one finally dies out. It was a faulty water pump and faulty temp gauge showed 210* when it was 260*. These motors are pretty strong I resealed up the water pump and jb welded the crack at the bolt then put another coat of rtv on that just in case and now she runs ok a little rough but enough to get me until the new motor gets here. Thanks for all your help I learned a lot with this experience.
