Hi

i am new here, have an 88 XJ, all of a sudden developed a rough idle, almost died on me the other night when i came to a stop. Replaced plugs and fuel filter. Last year replaced all fuel injectors, ignition coil, distributor, cap and rotor, TDC sensor and relays. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

does the idle go up and down if so replacing the TPS would probably fix your problem.

That just started happening on my 2000 Cherokee, but it only varies a little bit, and has only been doing that for a couple of days. I've had that problem on other cars, and the TPS is usually the culprit.

Also, don't forget to use Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner on your MAF sensor. (Never use anything else--like Carb Cleaner.)

In the past it would have idle fast like the choke was stuck open. Then it started to rev up when i was driving highway speeds, i would pull over and stop seemed to fix the problem temporally. Think i might try the TPS is that the same thing as the IAC valve?

Thanks

No it's not the (Throttle positioning sensor) and the (Idle Air control) valve are two different things. Your problem is the TPS it's a cheap and easy fix.I bet that's your problem i had the same problem on my 99 WJ
