Sorry, can't buy that.I can only attest to what happened when I ran the fram and what happened after I changed it. The crappy filter made it run worse.
Not trying to be a wise *** here, but all of the people that reported their engine running poorly with a fram, then running better after changing it out (including a guy in this thread) inadvertently fixed something? I don't think so. I would have had to accidentally knock a plug wire loose when putting the fram on, and then accidentally knock the same plug wire back on when changing it out.

It's the "fram is bad" psychology at work here. I'm not saying anything in particular about the filter itself. I want no part of an oil filter or spark plug debate. I'm only pointing out that some ppl who have heard the opinions about fram can start attributing changes to the outward operating performance of their motor to the filter. It would be like saying my XJ seems to get better gas mileage after a new paint job. Although..... If it's Cd is reduced with a smoother finish, maybe....
I have (had) no intentions on starting a fram debate. I respect what you are saying and respect yours and Salad's automotive knowledge. I only reported my observations and what happened to me. I'm not the only one. Believe what you like, or try putting a fram on your XJ and leave it on there for a while and report back. It's of little consequence to me. I will still continue to steer people away from fram because of my experience with them.

Never had the pleasure of running them myself but I never will because of the single use bypass valve and the stupid high bypass spec.

I second that. Don't forget the funky anti drain-back valve, an extra problem with the vertical setup in my two 90's.
I like supporting my local NAPA anyways, and they sell a known good Wix, (called Napa Gold)

Ran my girls 2.0 Golf to ~8000 miles on T6. hehehehehehehe
I only run the Jeep to 5000 due to worries about blow by and not driving it often. Hers is a daily commuter...20+ miles on the highway to keep it clean.

What year? 2.0L diesel or gas? Newer VWs I'd stick with something that meets their spec. I know 2.0L TDIs basically explode if you don't run 507.00.
And by explode I mean stop producing excess NOx. lmao

The VW 2.slow gasser is a pretty old engine (not 4.0 old), so I wouldn't be too concerned about oil choice. The diesel is a different story.
Yeah the N/A Gasser. TDI I'd be all up in that specific bS!!
I do need to do a ton of work to that golf. It's an 01 MK4 but only has 90k on it. Needs new rear control arm bushings, new driverside mirror, new hatch (some ******* crashed into it and left without a note or anything), and new trans fluid (35k on the current fill, slushbox ;[)
