Default roofrack lights to stock highbeam switch?

Was wondering if anyone has ever connected there roof rack lights to the high beam.. I really think it would be much cleaner and easier to use.. Been looking everywhere and can't find out how to do it. .

Forget it. Stock high beam switch will burn up under the load. Might catch on fire.

Use dedicated switch/wiring/relays. Heavy duty.

Not necessarily. You can do what I did with some bumper lights by using the high beam wire going to the headlights and splice into it, run it as the tickler switch for a relay. Then wire the relay just as you normally would. The high beam switch would then just turn on the relay.

I was under the impression that the OP was going to try to run everything through the head light switch.

Ah Haha yeah that's kinda what I figured he was shootin to do so I gave him a different suggestion that should work pretty good, as long as he uses a reasonable gauge wire

Using a relay to switch the additional lights on wouldn't put much of any extra load on the stock switch. I've actually thought of doing this myself with some driving lights on my truck.

Whatever you do just check to be sure its legal first.

Most states have a limit to how high a light can be mounted if its on and your driving on the road.
