fuel inefficient

Just why is the straight six such a pig for gas? My '97 S-10 with the 4.3 V6 gets way better mileage than my '99 Cherokee.

Engine: I6 with Mustang fuel injectors; 60mm Throttle Body;

Good question.
S-10 is lighter, not 4x4, cab only so less drag, engine/drive tran made for *** mileage not toque.
Just guessing.

my 95 4.0 gets 20 hiway....I'm happy with that, but it is stock....the more you do the less milage you get seems to be the norm
