Mounted mine to the stock tracks with some 1/8" thick 1" wide steel stock bent in a C shape. I added 4 additional mount points with nuts pulled off a Cherokee in the junk yard.

When I rolled it in a ditch, the roof rack hit a tree and prevented damage to the driver's side (see my photos). The rack was dented, but the mounts stayed strait.

Three ways to do it, to the stock rack, thru the roof or with gutter mounts. IMO the only way to mount a roof rack is with gutter mounts.

Gutter mounts are good but come with a price. Over load your rack or catch it on something and you can peel you gutters right off you jeep. If you do use the gutter mounts use at least 3 per side to distrubute the load better. If you have factory rails you can get mounts that attach to the stock rails. I have both styles and no problems... so far

try www.4wheelparts.com or the rack manufacturer

I bought 4 sets of feet and crossbars from Yakima or Thule that fit into my stock roof rack channels and then mounted the roof rack to the crossbars using u-bolts. The 4 sets spread out the weight so I can carry a butt-load of heavy stuff and my spare tire up there without any damage. I doubt if a gutter mount could hold up as well.

I don't think that the 2 stock ones that came with my Jeep would have been strong enough - even if I added 2 more. If I remember, they seemed pretty weak and too flexible...

Yeah but...what else are you gonna do? The gutter rails a lot stronger than the sheet metal of the roof. And any accident bad enough to rip the gutters off would have you looking for a new body anyway. Those gutter rails are STOUT.

agreed... i have a 96 and i would never attatch anything to that roof! haha ii can hear it flex from my cb antenna... i would say gutter mounts are the way to go. and just look at a design cause some are rather easy to duplicate... if you have the means to do so.
