Roof paint
Is this a common problem with jeeps paint starting to fade and peel on the roof. Any suggestions on how to fix it besides painting the entire car. I have a 2000 xj and rust is already starting to show up where the paint has peeled. very minor peeling like the size of a piece of rice but its all over the roof.
If you want a good paint job you need to prep it with really good primer. Spray one coat let dye, spray one more and sand smooth. Then you can spray your base coat, then at least one more coat. After that i spray about 2-4 coats of clear depending on the brand. After all that you will need to bake it in at least 120 degrees to be perfect.
paint it a light color ...white, silver, yellow orange ...if you got a black truck, it all looks good. Bringing it down to the beltline and covering the hood also looks sweet...because sooner or later, if you have a dark color paint job, your hood will be next to go...too flat and too wide!

They call your paint problem "checking," where it's just starting to crack from age and wear from heat and sunlight over time. I'll tell you I'm all for the pickup bed liner spray. Easy to surface prep (a good cleaning will do it, might want to sand a bit if it's peeling badly), sprays on nice, looks great on Jeeps and is rock solid once dry. Just be sure to mask and shield below where you spray. It's a great alternative to repainting in areas where you can get away with it such as rockers, lower panels, below windows, roofs, etc and it's dirt cheap and the finished texture really has a Jeep look and feel to it.
