roof console computer
ok today i was tinkering with the two buttons on the computer compass thingy and held on of the buttons and it went blank and then had 'var' and a number '1' next to it. as i pressed the right hand 'u.s/metric' button the number went up every time i pressed it all the way to 15 can anyone tell me what this is for. also regarding a previous question where the temp is supposed to be it says 'sc' if i were to change the sensor would this solve the problem, and is the sensor the thing attached under the hood right at the back. thanks

THat will allow you to adjust the compass variance for various regions..Where are you located and I can give you the proper variance number you need for you compass straight from my owners manual..Also if I had a scanner I'd post a pic for you..I'll try to find a map in one of my pdf's..

To quote the FSM...
My guess it the sensor is bad it is located up front by the bumper area...
The system reports SC when
the sensor is exposed to temperatures in excess of 140°F
or if the circuit is shorted. If the temperature is below
-40°F or an open exists, the system will display OC.

You can also google "Jeep Variance" and look in images. A map of the compass variance should be the first picture.
On another note... I found out that BMW temp sensors have different resistances than jeep sensors... My temp gauge was reading 94deg farenheit when it was really 64 outside hahaha
