Default Rock Auto Brands Good?

I've been shopping more and more at RockAuto for my parts... Starting to wonder what brands there are better than others. Thus far I haven't had any issues with thier products.

They carry many different brands, it depends on what you feel like spending. They carry top quality and cheap stuff, it's for you to decide.

as others have said they carry a lot of parts, many private labels too such as mighty auto parts, carquest etc. those are often in closeouts and just listed as private label. i picked up a set of 4 shocks that came in plain white boxes this way. paid $8 each, wound up being monroes.

the only brand they carry a lot of that i don't like all that much is airtex. failure rate is just higher than it should be.

on the flip side they have oem brands like denso which are about as good as it gets

also quality aftermarket brands like standard and beckarnley

I guess I'm more or less looking for the brands to stay away from. I'm going to be doing some cooling work. Replacing a few sensors. Then I'm moving on to wheels/brakes. Saving suspention for last.

I just learned this lesson with some TRE's I bought from them (Raybestsos Service Grade) which I promptly returned for the much better MOOG stuff. As a rule of thumb, if it's crazy cheap (like $12 a TRE cheap) it's probably junk or really low quality.

That's not to say that they don't have great deals on some stuff but even at a place like RockAuto you still get what you pay for.

Reputation is everything.

this is so true

even good brands can get you. like standard makes decent OE replacement stuff. however their T line is the cheap line, quality suffers to save a few bucks

I have bought several things from them that I could not find locally mainly a/c lines. If you are buying a lot of parts look at the shipping cost. Because a lot of stuff ships from different warehouses and you will end up paying out the nose for shipping. I have found NAPA to be very comparable to price and seem to have quality parts. I bought radiator, water pump, t-stat, all my coolant hoses, clutch fan from napa and havent had a problem. A lot of their parts have lifetime warranty. I prefer to deal local that way if I have a problem I can get it resolved quicker then dealing with an internet retailer
