Hey everybody. I just joined the forum and i was wondering if y'all could help me out. My Cherokee just got totaled ( shredded frame from a rear end collision) and i have about 3500 to get a new truck. i also have the option to take home 2800 and keep the totaled Cherokee or take the 3500 and not. The only think wrong with the car is the frame and because its a unibody it cannot be replaced. It was a 6 cylinder 4.2 liter with a five speed transmission and four wheel drive. Everything works on it but i was wondering if i should keep the jeep and part it out or just take the 3500. Its a stock 1996 Cherokee but it was still an amazing truck. Thanks for any and all help.

Personally I would buy it back and part it.
but than again I have an engine hoist and a place to keep all the parts.
imo get the engine ready to be pulled and sell it for $400-500 and than go from there.
Do realize this is WORK at this point and you will end up with a project just to get rid of it.

You had a 4.2? You sure? Was it a custom job, because XJ's never came with a 4.2 to the best of my knowledge. 2.1, 2.5, 2.8 and 4.0 is all Ive ever heard of. I thought 1996 only came with the 2.5, 4.0 and the 2.5 turbo diesel but I could be mistaken though.
But either way, let it go. UNLESS the motor and everything else is perfectly fine and you have the time and place to part it all out and store it, Id move on. If the time, place/space and money isnt an issue, Id personally keep it if everything was fantastic and just the frame was shot. If this happened to mine Id keep it for sure because I KNOW where/what the motor, trany, etc., has been through.

What year was it? If you have storage space, you might wanna keep it for parts.
