Just got done replacing the axle joint on the front of one of my '00 XJs. When you use the recommended procedure to get it all apart my hammer struck the ring around the stub shaft, and has bent it. First is that part really needed?? And if it is can they be sourced from somewhere?? It doesn't seem like it's needed, as the rest of the collar of the stub rides on the back of the hub assembly. Thoughts??

Just a dust shield. Just there to keep stuff from hitting on the seal of the hub bearing.
