while driving half my hood pops up. Happens every time. Can’t figure out why. It’s the passenger side. Afraid the whole thing is going to suddenly shoot up . Any suggestions?

cheers

you can try cleaning and lube the latch with a spray oil or you mite have to replace it .If I had to replace it I would do both .

may need to replace it, But lubricate it first and also my hood latch doesnt latch sometimes when i close it give it a good slam i typically raise it half way and let go of it. Also if your safety latch is working it should prevent that from happening.... Lube that too!

Just get a set of hood latches from the junkyard or eBay. One of mine kept jamming and I finally got sick of messing with it so I just replaced both of them. Now a can close my hood with a light press instead of repeatedly slamming it.

They take 5 minutes to swap in. Clean and lubricate them before installing

I would skip lubricating it and jump straight to replacement. I would fear it latching, once, and NEVER unlatching again. I have seen the hell it takes to get the hood open when the latch jams up. No thanks.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm however having issues finding replacements. #sigh

Like investinwaffles said, go to a junkyard. Half of my jeep is from there and I've had no issues. I would bet that they would have some latches there with your name on them.

LKQ Pick Your Part in Anaheim has several cherokees in the yard, most of them look like they have clean front-ends as well

Just go there and pick it yourself, or hit up eBay. You will save about $20 by getting them at a junkyard, but may not be worth it depending on how far away you live. BUT if you need anything else then it is worth it to just go to the yard and grab all the stuff you need. Interior bits, broken lights, missing screws, spare sensors or spare parts, etc.

I always end up grabbing other stuff when I am at the junkyard because it is in better condition than whatever part I have currently.

EDIT:
Here is a listing for some on eBay. Looks like the OEM part number is 55235523AC for anyone that stumbles across this post in the future
