Default Doors lock and unlock when right front door opens and closes

2001 XJ is fairly new to me. I just got done putting in a new junk yard window regulator in the right rear door. The window and locks work properly now, although I just noticed when I open and close the front passenger door the locks activate and there are also sounds of a motor that keeps running in liftgate. I'm not sure if this was happening before new regulator or not. Which direction do I go to now? Thanks!

There's an intermittent/broken connection in that door's harness. I think the master module is located in that door.

The "theory of last rework" dictates that you undo what you last did in order to determine that the fault (or not) existed prior to the rework.

I will unhook the regulator I just installed and see what happens. If problem is still there, do you believe a new master module will clear up problem and if so what exactly is that part and where is it located? Thanks for your help!

Definitely go ahead and do that. If the "condition" persists after you unhook it then the last rework is not the cause and the regulator can be restored. You don't know yet if the master module needs to be R&R'd. There may be nothing wrong with it and/or I may be wrong about the location. I'm not expert in these matters - would have to muddle through just like you - just trying to help based on my own experience with the front door wiring harnesses on my '99. Broken wires, loose crimps and/or intermittent ground connections become more common as age, wear and tear takes it's toll. Those door harnesses get flexed a lot with all the in-and-out traffic and it's usually just a matter of time before some connection fails. I will refer to my FSM and get back to you with better insights by this afternoon...

Until then, when you duplicate that "condition", get a grip on that harness and gurk/flex it one way and the other to see if you can cause it to stop & start. If that works then there's definitely a connection issue in that harness. Good Luck.

I want to clear-up some terminology I used previously. I referred to a master module but that was not correct. According to my '99 FSM there are two modules, they are called DDM (Driver Door Module) and PDM (Passenger Door Module). There is some interplay between the two modules. This means that in-order to a detailed diagnosis of the problem you will need access to each module and a multimeter. Don't despair yet if no meter is available because you may get lucky while looking around and wiggling cables - so, before going to deep, just start off by doing disassembly/inspection/wiggle tests. You'll need to remove the passenger door trim panel first...
