Default Is this the right Rear Axle Fill Plug?

Stock 1996 XJ 4X4

Looks like my rear drain fill plug is leaking, back of diff cover covered with oil coming from plug. Is this the correct one for my axle?

Depends on if you have the Dana 35 or the Chrysler 8.25 axle.

Make sure the hose from the axle tube isn't blocked and that the check valve at the end is working.

This is what I have. Going back to the reference pix at Quadratec and others, I might have a bad eye for this. Am guessing Dana 35, it is the stock original from factory.

Lighting by Harbor Freight.

It's a C8.25.

Then I have the wrong plug in my shopping cart. Unless a Dana 35 plug fits a Chrysler 8.25

Cool!

I'm going with 4WD.com on this one because they have no extra charge shipping on orders over $50, and my first part got me over that hurdle. Still under the $75 that gets no extra charge shipping from Morris.

Definitely go with the best deal! I was just using Morris 4x4 for a parts reference.

Also claims to fit 1987-2001, which would include the early D35 non-clip covers which have a threaded plug.

My last online parts order was Morris, for a battery hold down and other little bits. Order was under everybody's free shipping amount so got clobbered on shipping, but it showed up earlier than estimated, and fit fine. BTW, on the battery hold down, the iron workers and machinists out there could probably make one out of some round stock and angle iron easy peasy.

Just stop by a quick lube place, they usually keep those and all other drainplugs too, our shop does anyway.
